来看看你。

很久没来了。
长满草了吧。
偷偷留个脚印。
陪伴我三年多的你。
晚安。
我的顺其自然。

Mastertrack Urbanism

Introduction
Faculty staff from the departments of Urbanism and Architecture as well as national and international guest professors work with students in an intensive ‘laboratory’ situation, a research concept which is crucial to the spirit and quality of AUB.

The course aims at actively incorporating theory into the process of design and research. These combined activities provide the inspiration for the teaching and research undertaken in the AUB studios.

The first year concentrates on foundational concepts and on expanding the student’s capacity for high-level conceptual thinking and experimentation.

In the second year, each student works in one of the Faculty’s research laboratories on a research, or a research and design thesis with a topic preferably from the student’s country of origin.

The programme
Cities and urban regions are prime examples of places where social and economical renewal can be developed and shaped. The physical urban environment reflects processes of renewal and decay, in an ongoing transformation. Every urban landscape maintains its own shape and character of transformation and is a unique blend of qualities and shortcomings.Economic, social and cultural change occurs parallel to more physical changes and spatial design becomes a means to engage in the processes of the city. This attention to the city in transformation extends far beyond changing requirements in housing, infrastructure, or historic city quarters, although these projects address urgent issues in their own right, to an idea of the city as a dynamic field. Although conditions are different, this task has an equal relevance in all regions where cities provide the core for development; not only in Western Europe, but also in Eastern Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas as well.

The Netherlands offers a unique point of view and experience in the formulation of urbanistic ideas. Here the man-made aspect of the built environment is taken for granted and the idea of steering the transformation processes of the environment are a matter of normal urban practice. The course tries to build in a critical way on this unique experience and to push forward the theory and expertise of this practical urbanism.

This programme centres on urban and regional studies and development including landscape architecture and ecological planning in relation to social issues. In the first two semesters a core programme focuses on technical aspects in Design & Technology, and on societal, political and strategic aspects in Design and Strategy. In the second year three laboratories offer various graduation specializations Urban Compositions, Delta Design and Urban Transformations.

First year
The first year begins with an introduction to the elements of urbanism, focusing through project work on the Dutch urban context, while maintaining a critical evaluation of the position of Dutch urbanism in relation to the wider international discipline. Urban notions of scale, space, morphology, infrastructure, mobility will be presented along with ideas of the transformation of the city accompanying current social, technological and cultural transformations. The social, spatial and programmatic transformations of the inner city will be treated as a special case, introducing conceptual frameworks for the understanding of the social-spatial processes of the inner city, as well as ideas for strategic intervention in inner city areas.

The year continues with a critical evaluation of the ideas and potentials of planning, introducing the notions of strategic planning and future evaluation through design. Strategic planning thinking through the use of regional social-spatial perspectives and scenarios will be used to guide and integrate project work at lower scale levels.

Throughout there will be lectures and tutorials on aspects of methodology and theory and history of urbanism.

Second year
In the second year students will enter one of three research laboratories connected to the Urbanism department, where they will be expected to propose and carry out an urban research or research and design project. Students are encouraged to choose a project in their country of origin. The outcome of the final thesis is a design or a research report.

Within the laboratory context students will work under the supervision of a team of teachers-researchers and PhD students.

Research laboratories include:

1. Urban Transformations
The Urban Transformations laboratory concentrates on the changing face of the contemporary city in relation to contemporary societal and cultural changes. It has four sub-components: SpaceLab, spacelab which deals with social space as a dynamic in layered networks, Globalisation, urban form and governance, and Network city.

2. Urban Composition
The Urban Composition laboratory deals with the techniques of urban design and has two sub-components: The typology of the urban plan, and Sustainable development.

(Sigh... Finally I know why i am admitted to the program of urbanism... I wrote an essay on Sustainable Development in my ps!!!)

...
Sustainable urban and architectural design is an important issue in sustainable development in China. With proper planning and design at the early stage, many problems relating to can be minimized or even avoided. Architects, urban designers and engineers play a key role in this aspect. Not only must we have trained to confront such issues effectively, but also have a social and environmental responsibility to do so. I hope that I can design sustainable buildings for developing countries someday, especially China, with the most promising technologies that I would have learned.

3. Delta Design
The Delta Design laboratory concentrates on the contemporary landscape, especially the urban landscape and the tension between ideas of metropolis and arcadia. It has four sub-components: Delta metropolis, which looks at the transformation of the contemporary Dutch city from a series of cities into a metropolitan system, Delta landscapes, concerned with issues of genius loci in the new metropolitan field, and Landscape architecture.

Besides,i participated in the summerschool "Urban landscape"last year at TUD, which was organised by the department of Urbanism... maybe i do have the predestined relationship with it...
